Women in Sport Week 2025 celebrates female participation, leadership, and visibility in sports and physical activity. Taking place from March 3rd to March 9th, this annual event highlights the crucial role that women play in shaping the future of sport, fitness, and active living in Ireland.

At Ireland Active, we proudly support Sport Ireland’s Policy on Women in Sport (WIS) and its key pillars, including Visibility, Coaching, Leadership & Governance, and Active Participation.

Why Women in Sport Week Matters

Women and girls continue to face barriers in sports, from participation levels to leadership opportunities. This week is a powerful moment to:

  • Celebrate every woman and girl who plays, coaches, officiates, volunteers, and leads in sports.
  • Promote the vital work being done by Sport Ireland, NGBs, LSPs, and stakeholders.
  • Highlight impactful programmes funded by the Sport Ireland Women in Sport Programme.

This year’s Women in Sport Week themes are:

Monday, March 3rd – Visibility
Tuesday, March 4th – Coaching
Wednesday, March 5thHer Moves (Teenage Girl Participation)
Thursday, March 6th – Officiating
Friday, March 7th – Leadership & Governance
Saturday, March 8th – International Women’s Day & WIS parkrun
Sunday, March 9th – Active Participation

International Women’s Day 2025: “Accelerate Action”

Women in Sport Week also aligns with International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th—a global movement celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The theme for IWD 2025 is “Accelerate Action”, calling on us all to drive gender equality forward.
