National Water Safety Awareness Week 2025

Enjoy the Water, Respect the Risk
Ireland Active is proud to support National Water Safety Awareness Week, taking place from May 19th–25th, 2025.
Led by Water Safety Ireland, this annual initiative is a powerful reminder of the importance of being safe and responsible in and around water, whether in pools, open water, or leisure centres.
This year’s theme, “Enjoy the Water, Respect the Risk,” highlights the need for awareness and preparation, encouraging swimmers, families, and operators to enjoy aquatic activity while remaining vigilant.
Why Water Safety Matters
Swimming continues to be one of Ireland’s most popular forms of physical activity. Across Ireland Active member facilities, water safety remains a top priority through best practices, qualified lifeguards, and strong operational protocols.
This week is a timely opportunity to:
- Refresh your understanding of water safety guidelines
- Ensure pool users follow signage and lifeguard instructions
- Reinforce child supervision at all times
- Promote up-to-date training for all aquatic staff
Our Commitment
At Ireland Active, we’re committed to supporting safe, inclusive swimming environments through:
- Ongoing staff training and CPD opportunities
- National Quality Standard (NQS) audits focused on aquatic safety
- Collaboration with industry and safety bodies across Ireland
Let’s all take a moment this week to reinforce a culture of safety while continuing to enjoy the many benefits of swimming and aquatic activity.
