We are delighted to welcome Dr. Wilby Williamson, Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine and Professor of Physiology at Trinity College Dublin, to the Ireland Active Conference 2025.

Internationally recognised for his research in cardiovascular prevention, brain health, and exercise medicine, Dr. Williamson has trained at leading institutions including Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, UCSF, McGill, and the University of Cape Town, earning a DPhil in Cardiovascular Medicine from the University of Oxford. His work, supported by the EU Horizon programme, British Heart Foundation, and Wellcome Trust, integrates clinical research, physiology, and population studies to advance understanding of exercise and preventive health across the life course.

In his session, “The Missing Link: Exercise in the GLP-1 Era,” Dr. Williamson will explore the evolving relationship between exercise and emerging medical therapies such as GLP-1 receptor agonists. He’ll highlight why physical activity remains central to metabolic health, cardiovascular protection, and long-term wellbeing, even in a new era of medical weight management.
