Ireland Active welcomes the inclusion of swimming pools in phase 3 of the Sports Energy Support Scheme. This is an acknowledgement by government of the importance that swimming has on the nation’s health, as well as the importance of swimming pools as a vital resource for schools, clubs and communities across the country.

Facility application details, along with a request for initial information to assist with Ireland Active’s application process, will be circulated in the coming days and will be open to publicly accessible swimming pools that provide swimming lessons.

Karl Dunne, CEO of Ireland Active added: ”The recognition of government around the high energy costs of operating and maintaining swimming pools is very welcome. I’d like to thank Minister Martin, Minister Byrne, the Department of Sport and Sport Ireland for the work they have done with Ireland Active to ensure the inclusion of swimming pools in phase 3 of the Sports Energy Support Scheme. This funding will provide much-needed support for swimming pool operators who have been disproportionately hit with continued rising energy costs., I look forward to continuing our work with the Department and Sport Ireland to administer the funding package.”
