As part of this year’s Ireland Active Conference and National Quality Standard (NQS) Awards, we are now accepting applications for two sector-focused honours that celebrate excellence and impact across the leisure, health and fitness industry.


Sustainable Project/Initiative of the Year in the Leisure, Health, and Fitness Industry

2024 Winner: Karl Dunne, CEO of Ireland Active, presents Tina Dowling, CEO of The Watershed, Kilkenny, with the award for Sustainable Project/Initiative Of The Year in the Leisure, Health and Fitness Industry.

This award recognises facilities that have taken meaningful steps toward environmental and social sustainability. Examples include:

  • Reducing environmental footprints (e.g. energy, water, waste)
  • Adopting sustainable or renewable technologies
  • Promoting member awareness of eco-friendly practices

Whether your facility has launched a major sustainability campaign or introduced smaller impactful measures, we want to hear from you.


Community Engagement Initiative of the Year in the Leisure, Health, and Fitness Industry

2024 Winner: Karl Dunne, CEO of Ireland Action, presents Liam Cunningham, General Manager of Athlone RSC, with the award for Community Engagement Initiative of The Year in the Leisure, Health and Fitness Industry.

This award honours members who have actively engaged their local community through inclusive and impactful physical activity programmes. This could involve:

  • Outreach to minority or underserved groups
  • Active ageing or youth participation programmes
  • School or local organisation partnerships

We are proud to recognise initiatives that promote inclusion and make physical activity more accessible to all.


Deadline for entries: Wednesday, 10th September 2025
Winners will be announced at the Ireland Active Conference & NQS Awards on Friday, 24th October 2025 at The Johnstown Estate.
