On Tuesday, September 23rd, communities across Ireland will come together for #BeActive Day 2025, part of the European Week of Sport. The day encourages schools, clubs, workplaces, and community groups to host fun physical activity events that promote healthier, more active lifestyles.
This year’s theme focuses on the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases through Health-Enhancing Physical Activity (HEPA). From workplace yoga to school fun runs and community sports days, any form of movement counts.
Event organisers can register their activities on the #BeActive Day website and access a free toolkit with posters, guidelines, and promotional materials.
Karl Dunne, CEO of Ireland Active, said:
“Health-Enhancing Physical Activity is one of the most effective tools we have. Prioritising prevention through physical activity will strengthen communities and deliver long-term savings for our health system.”
Janis Morrissey, Irish Heart Foundation, added:
“Four in five adults don’t get enough daily movement. #BeActive Day is about reminding people that even small steps can make a big difference for heart health.”
Helen Forristal, Marie Keating Foundation, said:
“Up to 40% of cancers can be prevented through lifestyle changes. Staying active is one of the simplest, most powerful things we can do for our health.”
Last year, over 588,000 people across Europe took part in #BeActive Day. This year, Ireland aims to build on that momentum and inspire even more people to get moving.
