In the latest episode of Active Spaces, we visit Westpark Fitness in Tallaght, a family-owned health and fitness club that has been serving its community for more than 35 years.

Home to approximately 5,000 members and supported by a team of around 40 staff, Westpark has built its identity around what it calls the “Westpark Way” – a simple commitment to ensuring every member leaves with a smile.

More Than a Gym

Community is at the heart of Westpark Fitness.

The club offers an extensive range of facilities and services, including a 20-metre stainless steel swimming pool – the first of its kind in Ireland – alongside a large gym, Olympic lifting area, dedicated group exercise spaces, spinning, aqua classes, saunas and steam rooms.

With more than 70 classes every week, group exercise plays a major role in bringing members together. Westpark has also responded to the growing focus on wellness and longevity through classes including chair yoga, chair Pilates and yoga for anxiety, alongside programmes specifically focused on supporting mental health and wellbeing.

Beyond traditional fitness facilities, members can access services including VO₂ max and metabolic testing, while the club also provides social spaces and additional amenities designed to make Westpark somewhere people can spend time, connect and feel part of a community.

A Longstanding Ireland Active Member

Westpark Fitness has been part of the Ireland Active community for decades, with its involvement stretching back to the Irish Leisure and Amenity Managers Association.

For Westpark, Ireland Active membership has provided opportunities to network with other operators, exchange ideas and learn from organisations across the sector.

The club has also been a longstanding participant in the National Quality Standard (NQS), using the programme as an opportunity to benchmark its performance and identify areas for continued improvement.

As Kevin explains in the episode, the NQS audit process gives the team access to experienced industry professionals who can assess the club’s standards, provide guidance and help identify opportunities to progress.

Westpark has received a number of NQS recognitions over the years, including Club of the Year and Manager of the Year nominations, while a member of the Westpark team was named National Staff Member of the Year.

The club has also continued to raise its standards in sustainability, achieving an A1 building energy rating and investing in areas including solar energy, chillers and electric vehicle charging.

From its facilities and classes to its focus on community, wellbeing and continuous improvement, Westpark Fitness demonstrates how a long-established club can continue to evolve while staying true to the people it serves.
