Ireland Active is pleased to release Episode 3 of its Active Spaces series, featuring Swan Leisure in Rathmines, Dublin. Built in 2010 and operated by Swan Leisure for over 15 years, the facility has become a vibrant hub for people of all ages in the community.

During our visit, we meet Paul Conlon, Area Pool Manager, who oversees both Rathmines and Crumlin facilities. Paul shares insights into their multi-sport hall, dedicated personal training studio, and extensive aquatic offering that includes baby swimming from 12 weeks, adult lessons, Parent & Baby Aqua, aqua aerobics, LGBTQ+ swim lessons, and weekly autism-friendly pool hours.
Inclusivity is a core value at Swan Leisure, reflected in their recent Inclusivity Award win and their commitment to providing safe, supportive spaces for all members of the community. Paul speaks about helping people overcome barriers to participation, sharing stories such as an 80-year-old member who learned to swim a width of the pool after months of encouragement and coaching.

We also hear from member Gerry McGarney, who describes how swimming eased his knee problems, built his confidence, and introduced him to a diverse and supportive community at Swan Leisure. Gerry’s message to others is simple: “Don’t overthink it—just get started”.

The Active Spaces series continues to highlight the facilities and people that make up Ireland’s leisure, health, and fitness industry, celebrating centres that drive community wellbeing nationwide.
